Los Tacotales is a no-frills Mexican restaurant situated in the heart of Cozumel’s Centro neighborhood, offering a straightforward and unpretentious dining experience that leans heavily into authentic flavors from the region. It’s the kind of place where the focus is clearly on the food, not on flashy decor or upscale ambiance. The setting feels relaxed and down-to-earth, with light Spanish guitar music playing softly in the background—enough to add to the mood without drowning out conversation.

This spot is best for those looking to dig into hearty, traditional Mexican dishes without the fuss. The menu centers on classics like tacos filled with bistec, al pastor burritos, and tender arrachera that locals and visitors alike appreciate for their genuine taste and satisfying portions. Sharing guacamole with crisp chips is a good way to start, and many appreciate the reasonable prices—a full meal with drinks can come in well under what you might expect downtown.

Los Tacotales has a laid-back vibe often described as "island time," which fits with Cozumel’s slower pace and friendly hospitality. Service is unhurried but welcoming, and cash-only payment keeps the experience simple and straightforward. The atmosphere is casual enough to drop by after a day of exploring or diving, where you can unwind without feeling rushed.

This place tends to attract both locals and travelers who appreciate authentic Mexican fare prepared with care and served in a modest but clean environment. The bathrooms and hand-washing stations are basic but functional, reflecting the place’s practical approach.

For a visitor or local seeking a grounding meal that highlights traditional flavors like charro beans and tacos with mild but vibrant salsas, Los Tacotales fits the bill. It’s not about extravagance but about the comforting satisfaction of well-crafted, straightforward Mexican food in a setting that feels like part of the neighborhood fabric.

The best restaurant i’ve eaten at in Cozumel! The special charros and pozole are phenomenal, well balanced, and customizable with various toppings. Expect laid back but friendly service (they run on island time). The tacos are great, too. The ambience is simple and down to earth, with light spanish music playing so you can still talk comfortably. If you’re looking for authentic, hearty food at a fantastic price, this is your spot!

From this 1st generation Mexican American, I know authentic Mexican cuisine and this posole is directly from my mom’s kitchen, exactly like my family recipe. So delicious it transported it to my mom’s!!! Delicious! Hubby and his dive buddy enjoyed Al pastor burritos. The chips and guacamole were also excellent! We all ate for less than $30, including the guac and drinks! Great food and value. The staff were attentive and I loved the patio seating. We will definitely be back and you should definitely try it!!! You won’t regret it!

Good food. Not much variety . They also didn't have any of the " traditional" taco meats. Cash only.

Low key, no frills but delicious restaurant. Cash only! Includes bathroom and place to wash your hands. arrachera (skirt steak) is very good. Al pastor with pineapple. Chorizo (super red meat). With onions, cilantro, cheese, lime, salsa verde, and spicy salsa (which isn’t too hot - it has a mild kick).

We love this no-frills local restaurant, it is just a 10-minute walk from the pier, away from the bustling tourist area. The pozole soup was hearty and full of flavor, and the taco al pastor was absolutely delicious. The Gringa pastor with a pineapple slice was perfectly refreshing, combining sweet, tangy, and savory notes. Plus, It’s very inexpensive and the server was attentive and diligent. Highly recommend for an authentic, quick bite in Cozumel!

I always look for the places where the locals eat, so I can make sure I am trying real authentic food. This place is wonderful, great food, great service and great prices! Much better than any restaurants in the tourist hotspots! I definitely recommend if you want real Mexican tacos. (Ask for tacos del pastor). My fiancé had the chicken burrito, which he said was great too!
